DAY 1
Mondaino
Mondaino

A typical Medieval village, Mondaino is famous for hosting the Buck Race, a historical revival that is held in Summer and is recognized by the European Consortium of Historical Re-Enactments. Over the rest of the year it is always pleasant to have a promenade through its lanes and enjoy its square, one of the most typical ones of the whole Romagna. Through the tiny streets of the village we suggest you to visit the Mill of the Lower Door to taste pit cheese, world class culinary presidium of this area, which follows a precise recipe, and whose preparation ends in August when it is buried in pits created on the purpose.

DAY 2
Gradara and its castle
Gradara and its castle

At the border between Romagna and the Marche, the village of Gradara stands out with its Malatestan fortress enclosed in the Medieval castle walls. The fortress is of course the greatest attraction, according to the legend it is said to have been the scene to the tragic love affair between Paolo and Francesca, but also the watch walkways with their charming view are worth a visit, and you can end your day with a stop for a typical dinner in one of the most distinctive local restaurants.

DAY 3
Sassofeltrio and Monte Cerignone
Sassofeltrio and Monte Cerignone

At the border between the Marche and Romagna there is the small city of Sassofeltrio, dating back to the beginning of the Middle Ages, as shown by the still untouched structure of its center. Walking through the streets of this village you can’t help notiing the distinctive city park, called as the “Terrace of the Montefeltroes”, where once upon a time stood the fortress, of which there are only some traces left today; the visit to the parish church is recommended, as it hosts different works by local artists. To end your day you can visit the next city of Monte Cerignone with its castle, to then stop for dinner at the Osteria Clementina, offering typical local cuisine.

DAY 4
San Leo and Sogliano
San Leo and Sogliano

Every alchemy connoisseur will know about the Earl of Cagliostro and will thus have to know about San Leo, in whose fortress he was imprisoned and died. Very enchanting is the visit to the castle and its rooms, including Cagliostro’s cell, but also the village with its distinctive lanes and panoramic viewpoints is worth a visit. Those who love local food and wine will not have to miss a visit to San Sogliano on the Rubicon, a place mostly known for the production of pit cheese, a local cheese seasoned in ancient wheat pits.
